nukenai said: I hate to be that person but do you really expect a game from fucking japan to be progressive about same-sex marriage. You’re really pushing western ideals on a country with VERY different norms, here.
I don’t understand why you think that I expected a game from a historically non-progressive company to allow same-sex relationships. I never said anything like “I expected to marry (female character)” or “Why aren’t there queer relationships?” I said “of course there’s no queer relationships”, stating the obvious and then my dislike of it. I’m not setting standards on anything to have queer representation, I’m just saying how I personally feel.
The point of the post was not me expressing “I expected queer relationships”, its “I expected to have the option to just be friends with someone of the opposite binary gender.” Having the decision of being able to say “no” to my avatar becoming someone’s romantic partner seemed way more realistic to me than having my avatar being partnered with another female character. “This is so horribly heteronormative” - I was referring to how a male character and my female character CAN ONLY be married at the highest relationship rank as opposed to being close friends. But I guess its a norm in Japan for close males & females to be romantically involved, so I could be pushing western ideas on a game of japanese origin here. shrugs.
tl;dr: I know Nintendo games will never have queer relationships, I didn’t know I couldn’t decide whether or not my avatar would be married to Chrom, I’m upset about the later.
ok so I didn’t know building a relationship with a character of the opposite binary gender would ultimately have me fall in love with/have a baby with/marry/etc. with whoever I’m conversing with. I thought there would be an option for me to just be friends with Chrom and just go through the conversations together so we can do well in battle together BUT nah I’m in a romantic relationship with him now. And of course there’s no queer relationships, characters of the same gender interacting can only ultimately become close friends.
This is so horribly heteronormative and I hate it.
